The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam has announced the official use of "PH" and "PHL" instead of "RP" as initials referring to the Philippines.

These codes have been developed by the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) in accordance with the ISO 3166-1 codes for its member countries.

"PH" is the two-letter (alpha-2) code and "PHL", the three-letter (alpha-3) code assigned by the ISO to the Philippines.

Philippine government offices and an increasing number of Philippine media organizations have started referring to the Philippines as PH or PHL to avoid ambiguity and confusion.

The Philippines is one of the ISO's member countries, and is represented in the ISO by the Bureau of Product Standards. END
